TV & Film Set Booklet

THE CHALLENGE_
An in house publication project to promote a course at the University of South Wales to prospective students on an open day as many students feel overwhelmed by the information they must digest when deciding on whether a course is right for them. Tackling misconceptions and lack of information, I opted to promote TV & Film Set Design as it’s a course students wouldn’t have had the opportunity of studying within GCSE’s or A-levels.
THE SOLUTION_
Through research and a conversation with the Course Leader, I realised the main obstacle of the course is that TV & Film Set Design is a specialised course that students probably wouldn’t have studied before University. I felt it was important to provide an opportunity to give the students a taste of what the course is like within the publication that also outlines the course's key details and structure.
PUBLICATION.
The front and back covers of the booklet focus on the relationship between what the audience sees and the behind the scenes structure of the sets, illustrated by the wooden frames used to hold the set walls up. The covers of the booklet give focus to the idea of how this course opens a door to the industry. Taking design inspiration from the students work I used blueprints and CAD drawings to influence the editorial style of the booklet's interior pages.
UI / CONCEPT.
Borrowing from the course syllabus, paper mechanics allow for the back pages of the book to be folded to become a 3D set that can be drawn on using the grid background and placed alongside each other. The concept is that students can design their own store that will be placed alongside those of other attendees of the open day to create a high street, giving a small taste of what to expect from the course, and giving potential students the ability to feel creative.
